New Unified Department Names Across Enterprise Operations and Strategy

September 25, 2026

The following message was sent to all university faculty and staff.

As we continue to align our business and operational model to support our comprehensive university and academic health center, we are taking another important step toward greater clarity, consistency and alignment across our academic and health campuses.

Our university has grown significantly in size, scope and complexity. As we continue to advance our academic, research, healthcare and community missions, the enterprise services that support this work must evolve with us. Our goal is to build an operating model that can effectively support the needs of a large, comprehensive institution today while providing the infrastructure and capacity necessary for continued growth.

Over the past several months, leaders and teams across the division of Enterprise Operations and Strategy have worked together to align department names and establish naming conventions that more clearly describe our shared functions and services across the university.

These updates are more than changes in terminology. They provide greater clarity about how our teams are organized, make it easier for faculty, staff and leaders to understand and access the services they need, and reinforce our continued progress toward operating as one university.

Effective Oct. 1, the following unified department names will be used across our academic and health campuses:

  • Enterprise Technology Services replacing University Technology Solutions on the academic campus and Information Management Services on the health campus.
  • Financial Strategy and Operations replacing Financial Affairs on the academic campus and Business Affairs on the health campus.
  • Enterprise Development and Strategy replacing Real Estate on the academic campus and Strategic Planning on the health campus.
  • Facilities Management replacing Real Estate and Property Management on the academic campus and Facilities Management and Capital Projects on the health campus.
  • Human Resources replacing People Excellence on the academic campus and Human Resources on the health campus.
  • Compliance and Integrity Office replacing Institutional Compliance and Risk Services on the academic campus and Institutional Compliance and Privacy on the health campus.
  • Administration and Operations will continue to operate under its current name.

Beginning this fall, these names will begin appearing in communications, organizational materials, websites and other university resources. Some changes will be implemented quickly, while others will take additional time to complete as part of a thoughtful transition process.

The teams in Enterprise Operations and Strategy are committed to ensuring that the continuity of operations and excellent service remains our top priority for the missions we serve. Our integration efforts are intentionally thoughtful and phased, supporting stability while we build a unified division that operates cohesively, provides greater clarity and consistency for our community, and is positioned to support our continued growth and future success. Establishing consistent names across our operational areas is one important step in that work, helping to create a clearer understanding of our services, how they work together and where to turn for support, while continuing to strengthen our shared institutional identity.
