The integration of UTSA and UT Health San Antonio brought together two very large and accomplished institutions to create the foundation for a single university that will become an integrated world-class academic research and academic medical center for San Antonio, Texas, the nation and the world.

Foundation for the Integration

Highlighted below are the principles that will guide our efforts as we work to integrate our two institutions.

Strengthening our existing areas of expertise

Sustain Strategic Focus

Ensuring that current areas of strategic focus are supported and not negatively impacted

Empower Participation

Promoting collaboration and supporting decision making with robust data, analysis, and expert input from within the university

Structure

Our task is to marshal the tremendous strengths of the combined institutions that are now UT San Antonio to create a unified preeminent university. This process is led by an Integration Steering Committee (ISC), which oversees a number of task forces, each having several working groups.

Voices of Support

Our Mission Statement

One of the first steps in our integration process was to develop a new, joint mission statement. The new statement was approved by the UT System Board of Regents in November and will be submitted by March 2025 to receive approval from the SACSCOC Board of Trustees at its June 2025 meeting. The proposed integrated mission statement blends core elements from both institutional statements. This statement will guide our shared vision of becoming a globally preeminent university.
